Agnieszka Zoltowski is the cat-loving vegan designer and maker behind ORU. She was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, an environment that inspires her color palettes and designs. Her parents, who emigrated from Poland, were artists and creative entrepreneurs, and continually fueled her love of art and design from a young age.
Agnieszka worked with Miyuki beads for the first time at a beading class at age 12. She immediately fell in love with the beautiful colors and perfect shapes that snapped together like legos as she wove each bead. For over two decades she has continued to work with these Japanese glass beads, savoring their colors and tactility, and immersing herself in the meditative aspect of weaving on a miniature scale.
In 2007, she moved to Portland, Oregon to develop her metal smithing skills at Oregon College of Art and Craft. While she had been designing and selling jewelry on the side throughout her childhood and adult life, she wanted to see if she could turn this side-hustle into a career. And in 2014, with a giant nudge from the universe, she finally started combining the woven beads with metal forms into the jewelry line that is now called love oru.
